Mezinárodní hudební festival
whose aim it is to bring top Czech and foreign performers to Třeboň and to offer visitors to the town music that at other times is only found on the most respected of Czech and world stages. Quality music played by well-known performers and the cosy atmosphere of the square or chateau in Třeboň combine to guarantee visitors to the festival an unforgettable, uplifting experience every year.
Dear Friends of Třeboňská nocturna,
The 15th Annual Třeboňská nocturna International Music Festival 2018 will open its doors in just a few weeks’ time. The fact that I am organising this “family” festival together with my daughter is a well-known fact. It has been our wish since the very outset to make sure that this festival truly is a family festival, unlike all the major festivals. We therefore placed considerable emphasis on ensuring that by coming together, all our listeners have the chance to build good relationships with each other. All of you who come to our concerts, whether regularly or not, are part of our extended “family”, a family in which we hope that the love of music and of coming together at individual concerts prevails.
As in any other family, in which one person tries to help another, we too are delighted when we receive feedback on how good it was to have been at a performance by one of our own, top-class Czech artists or by a top-class artist from abroad. After all, it is not always easy to travel to distant cities in search of a cultural experience when you reach a certain age. And this was one of the fundamental ideas with which we began organising Třeboňská nocturna all those years ago.
Another, no less important idea was to return to the times when music and playing knew no borders. This is something we are particularly aware of today, as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of our republic. We are delighted that listeners from Linz, Gmünd, Weitra and Freyung come to our concerts, at a time when borders do exist, but music does not recognise them.
We are happy to be able to welcome a whole host of top-class artists this year. The Belfiato Quintet is made up of young musicians who have already proven their quality at international competitions. It is an ensemble that, it must be said, is one of the most sought-after in the Czech Republic and in the world. Pianist Martin Kasík is truly among the elite and his concert in Třeboň is a highly-anticipated event among the learned public.
Olga Šroubková has been successful at a whole host of violin competition in recent years, most recently at the Prague Spring competition (she will again be performing a full-length concert of her own at this year’s festival). Together with violoncellist Eduard Šístek she will perform pieces written by well-known composers. It is unfortunate that we will be unable to hear the artists in the Church of St. Giles this year, the church undergoing reconstruction work, but it is our hope that the Chateau Stables will provide an adequate replacement.
The final two days of the festival are entirely different as far as content and theme are concerned. On Friday, MIBkvartet, with instrumental reinforcements, will accompany singers Michaela Gemrotová and Marián Vojtek. It is sure to be a delightful evening listening to well-known melodies from the worlds of opera, movies and musicals. Then on Saturday, the final day of the festival, we are proud to welcome some very special guests – soloists from the Great Theatre in Moscow Veronika Dzhioeva and Alexey Tatarintsev. The best-known operatic melodies written by world-renowned composers will be heard, accompanied by the South Bohemian Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Jan Chalupecký.
And just as we wish each other all the success in the world in a proper family, I would ask you to keep your fingers crossed for us and come to listen to one of our concerts. It is sure to be an experience to remember.
Wishing you a pleasant day
Miloš Končický, Festival Director
